Flashing .hex files

When I connect my DS203 to the computer with the USB cable, hold down the >|| button, it appears in Windows Explorer as a new drive. - all well and good, but...
When I try to copy a file to it, the computer responds with  'no Such drive' and it disappears from Windows Explorer.
It doesn't matter what type of file I try to copy.
Tried Windows 7 and Windows XP. Same problem.
Can anyone help ?

Changed the cable but no difference.
If I connect the DS203 to my computer and just switch on, I can copy files to the device then (it's just named DSO and has one file there - 9220AA97.PAR).
It's only when I hold down the >|| key and switch on, that it doesn't work (it's then named DFU V3_12_C and contains no files)
All the drivers loaded OK, I have even uninstalled them and tried again from scratch. One of them is called 'Vertual DFU Disk USB Device'. I assume that the bad spelling of 'Virtual' is OK?
Any other ideas?

Under  windows7 and windows xp will be no such problem.
Have you ever tried other computer?

Yes!
I have tried 3 different computers:
Windows 7 x64
Windows 7 x86
Windows XP
Same problem on all of them.

The question now is: you can't copy the files into DFU mode?

That is correct.
I can't copy anything in DFU mode.
When I try to copy a file, the PC waits for a few minutes, then responds with 'no such drive'
