Hi,

I recently returned a TS100 on which I could not update the firmware. I tried two different computers, many different cables and many different USB ports. The OSs were Win 8.1 - x64 and Win 7 - x64.

I could get the TS100 to appear as a disk and I could copy the .hex file to it. Then...nothing happens. The .hex file just sits there forever. I did manage to get the upgrade process to start on my laptop, but only got a .err file. I spent a couple of hours on this and there is nothing more that I could do.

I have ordered a replacement soldering iron and I am just posting to see if anybody else has had a similar issue.

Cheers

Whether you can find the config.txt file in the U disk in the CONFIG mode.It should also be fine if you can write the firmware in Windows 7-x64.

My second soldering iron has the same issue. I have today tried *3* computers and *4* OSs (openSUSE Leap, Linux Mint 18, Windows 8.1 - x64 and Windows 7 - x86). I have used a mixture of cables and USB sockets. The best I can to in the upgrade process is to get a .err file.

Using all this hardware and number of OSs, there is no way the problem can be at my end as all my hardware and software works 100%. AIUI, the latest official firmware (2.18) does NOT use a config.txt file.

I am in contact with minidso support and I hope that they will be able to get my TS100 upgraded.

Cheers

Soldering iron directly connects to the computer, not entering DFU mode. There is no config.txt file when the screen shows CONFIG

The two TS100 has almost no chance of being broken at the same time.
Can you try to format the flash disk with "FAT", And close the antivirus software .
Now you flash the files in the disk, maybe is the anti-virus software is automatically copied in.

[i = s] posts by DrTeeth in 2018-5-31 00:59 Edit
The two TS100 has almost no chance of being broken at the same time.

Please bear in mind that I have used 3 different computers, 5 different OSs, many different USB cables and many different USB sockets. Something IS wrong with the soldering irons if it is that difficult. The instructions are VERY easy to fullow so there is a low possibility of not doing it right. On the other hand, it could also be that the instructions are not good enough as there is nothing about anti-virus software sodtware in them. I also had problems when I used Linux (Linux Mint 18) where there is no anti-virus software running.

I DID manage to flash the firmware, though I did not do anything differently than I had before. I used the same hardware and software I had used previously.

I have been in contact with somebody with a lot of experience with the TS100. I was advised that my experience is not unusual. I am reinstalling Win 7 just to help with the flashing of the TS100 in future. Mt PC will then boot two versions of windows and 9 Linux distros, all in primary partitions.

I am more than happy to work with you off-forum to get to the bottom of this.

Cheers

Maybe someone will help below described.
I had a similar problemma.
I decided as follows:
1. Deleted all files and folders from the virtual disk.
2. Copied the firmware to a virtual disk - the extension was replaced by ERR.
3. Once again, copied the firmware to a virtual disk - as a result, two files with extensions of ERR and RDY appeared on the virtual disk.
4. Connect the soldering iron to the power source and found that the firmware had been updated properly.

That is what happened to me except that I had to remove and then re-connect the TS100 between getting the .err and .rdy file. It is a real puzzle as I had copied over the .hex file, literally, over 75 times and then suddenly it worked with the OS and hardware I had tried with before.
