How to format the internal storage

I'm looking for a way to format the internal 8MB storage. It has worked great, but today the drive wouldn't show up when connected to the computer. As there is no obvious option on the DS212 to format the storage, I used disk management on my computer (Ubuntu 17.10) to format the storage device as FAT. After doing this it mounts and I can see the files, but every file written contains garbage and nothing saved on the DS212 can be opened (as intended) on the computer.

So, how do I go about properly reformatting the built-in storage?

1. mkfs.vfat -nDSO /dev/sdb

. The files still come out corrupted, but the preferences seem to be persistent still.

Please use Windows 7 and above format disk.

I had the same problem. I was able to format it using linux:
sudo mkfs.fat -F 12 -n DSO211 -s 1 /dev/sdb
