Ihave been using TS100 for a while. To my great surprise, its ability to raisetemperature will not be compromised when it is mobile at work. With a 19Vpower, the temperature can effortlessly jump to 300, comparable to a soldering station in thecurrent market. There are many image tutorials for disassembly of the T12soldering iron tip, but there isn’t any for the TS100’s yet. So the honor ofpresenting the first one on the Internet is mine.

Beforedisassembly, let’s take a look at TS100 in one piece. The soldering iron tipI’m taking apart is of model TS-B2. (Since the tip is too small, none of mysaws at hand is fit for the disassembly. So I have to use a file.)

First, file the entire tip along the red lines and see what it looks like inside.

Ascan be seen from the picture, the bronze part is copper, which is covered withalloy.

Second, file the sheath for the tip along the red lines and peel it open to both sides.

Takeoff the sheath, and we can find that the ceramic heating elements are connectedto the tip by 2 leads.

Next, dissemble the rear part. Since it is glued, the only choice I have is to breakit apart the hard way. Now we can see two power-connecting points link a coupleof leads.

Herecomes the crucial part of the tip. With the help of a bench vice, the filingwork continues. Then it could be found that the circular parts are the thermocouples. They are at the tip of the ceramic heating elements, in front of which there isthe heat-conducting copper that contributes to more accurate temperature control.Inaddition, the size of the copper suggests a quality making.

Duringthe filing process, I accidentally broke apart the heating elements, insidewhich we could find coils of wire.

Afterthe disassembly, I could conclude that the tip of TS100 shares a similar way ofheating and temperature control as that of T12.

Comparisonbetween TS100’s tip and T12’s tip

Dueto the shortness of TS100’s tip, additional methods should be taken to ease thetip’s influence on the temperature of the handle. Hence the design of afencing-sheath-shaped protruded part that weighs over half the weight of theentire tip. It serves to strengthen the heat radiation. I suppose that someaccessories such as a tip sheath or a stand could be added to the protrusion.

Last,a family picture after the disassembly.
